Foundation for the Development of Science and Education “Intellect” - was founded in 1994 to promote the development of science and education in the Kharkiv region. Currently, the foundation participates in the implementation of regional, national and international educational and scientific projects in the field of technical, social and behavioral sciences. The Foundation organizes scientific and communication events, training, internship and professional development programs, contributes to the establishment of interregional and international relations between educational institutions and research teams. The Foundation provides technical and methodological support for research at partner institutions.
The Intellect Foundation was founded as a non-governmental organization on July 20, 1994. The full legal name of the Foundation is the Non-Governmental Organization Foundation for the Development of Science and Education “Intellect”. In 2017 and 2020, the Foundation was re-registered.
From 1992 to 1995, the Foundation developed an automated system of accreditation of educational institutions of Ukraine. The system was approved by the Ministry of Education in January 1995 (act of January 21, 1995), put into use by the letter of the Ministry of Education №2-21 as of April 23, 1992.
From 1997 to 1998, the Foundation developed and implemented the “Automated system of vocational guidance for students of educational schools “Applicant”.
From 1994 to 2008, in cooperation with universities of Kharkiv region, special courses were developed for schoolchildren: “Elite of the Motherland”, “In the world of arts”, “Fundamentals of innovation”, “Information technology”, “Fundamentals of management and business”, “Ukraine: past, present, future”, “English language”, ”Sports training”. The programs are approved by the Ministry of Education (letter № 1 / 11-990 of June 19, 1996), the Kharkiv Regional Department of Education and the Kharkiv Regional Scientific and Methodological Institute of Continuing Education.
From 2008 to 2010, the Foundation developed the program “Public Monitoring of the Quality of Higher Education”.
In 2008, the Foundation developed the concept and program of the Center for Extracurricular Education “Elite of the Motherland”, supported by the Department of Humanitarian Affairs of the Kharkiv City Council, received a license for the Center for Extracurricular Education “Elite of the Motherland” (series AA 3 214693 from 20.06.2008).
In 2002, the Foundation held a regional competition “Higher education through the eyes of students”.
In 2004, the Foundation participated in the work of the International Commission on the Recognition and Equivalence of Training Courses, Educational Documents and Academic Degrees (ICPE).
In the period from 2012 to 2017, the Foundation developed the project “Development of the fundamentalization of higher education Intellect-21”.
In 2014, the Foundation implemented the project “From emotional to analytical assessment of candidates for President of Ukraine”.
In 2016-2017, the Foundation took an active part in the work of the Public Council under the Kharkiv Regional Administration.
In 2018, the Foundation held an all-Ukrainian competition of projects for the Image of the Future (Vision) of Ukraine.
In 2019, a constituent assembly was held to establish the Council of the Scientific Community at the Kharkiv House of Scientists.
The Foundation actively cooperates with higher education institutions of Kharkiv such as V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Semyon Kuznets Kharkiv National Economic University, G.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University named after, Kharkiv National Medical University, National Technical University KhPI, Beketov Kharkiv National University of Municipal Economy, Kharkiv State University of Food and Trade, Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Ukrainian Academy of Engineering and Pedagogy, Kharkiv State Academy of Culture, Humanitarian Institute “Ukrainian Humanitarian Academy”, Institute of Business and Management, Kharkiv Institute of Management, International Slavic University and other educational and scientific organizations of Kharkiv region.
The Foundation regularly, independently and in cooperation with other organizations, organizes and participates in scientific and practical conferences, seminars and round tables at the regional, national and international levels.
The Foundation participated in the implementation of the Ukrainian-American project “Capacity Building for Lifespan Focused Substance Use Disorder Research in Ukraine” (4D43TW009310-05). The project has been implemented since 2008 under the auspices of the University of Michigan Addiction Center (USA) with support of the Fogarty International Center (FIC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and National Institute on Drug Addiction (NIDA). As part of this project, the Ukrainian Longitudinal Study (ULS) was launched in 2019 - monitoring the impact of various factors on the health of Ukrainian children throughout life with a special focus on risky behavior in relation to their own health (primarily risk factors for addictive behavior). Partner institutions implementing ULS research are: G.S. Kostyuk Institute of Psychology of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine; Ukrainian Scientific and Methodological Center for Practical Psychology and Social Work (psychological service); State Institution “Institute of Child and Adolescent Health of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”; State Institution “Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry and Narcology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”; Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs; Wayne University School of Social Work (USA); University of Michigan Addiction Center (USA).
The Foundation supports partner research: research on the harmful effects of alcoholism of problem drinkers, as well as their microsocial environment “GENAHTO” - Gender and Alcohol’s Harm to Others, performed by the Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry and Narcology of NAMS of Ukraine, and monitoring the spread of addictive behavior among youth in Kharkiv “Youth and Drugs”, carried out by sociologists of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs together with the Sociological Association of Ukraine since 1995.
